Andrew Dodson (MSc Construction Management 2011)


I joined the Army in 1997 and have served in the UK, Cyprus, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Canada and Gibraltar. My job in the Army involves infrastructure design, facilities management, contract management and construction project management.

What top tips would you give to students who are beginning their studies?

Use your time at university wisely, you are investing in your future.

Working in Gibraltar as a Deputy Facilities Manager.

Be flexible, expect challenges and be a good communicator.

How has the University of Reading and the Careers Centre helped in your chosen career path?

The UoR has widened my operational knowledge base considerably and helped my decision making.

What are your top tips for students graduating this year? What should they be doing to secure the job they want?

Network. Start working on professional accreditation straight away, ensure they are up to date with industry issues and the latest construction technology.

What does the University mean to you and what is your favourite memory?

The UoR helped me achieve one of my major goals in life. The best memory is graduating with my fellow students from my course.
