Jessica Dollard (BA Classical Studies and English Literature 2009)

Since graduating I've worked in a number of roles including an assistant on board a cruise ship which specialises in Classical sites, a travel PR executive, a marketing coordinator for a music festival and now I'm working for a global financial services company in Times Square, New York.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Reading?

Reading has a great reputation and I really liked the campus atmosphere, plus it was very close to home.

What was the best bit about living and studying in Reading?

That everyone knew each other as it was a small but friendly community. I had the best three years at Reading.

What top tips would you give to students who are beginning their studies?

Make sure you take time to think about the big picture and what you want to do after you graduate. Don't view graduation as an end point but the beginning of the rest of your life.

What are you up to now? How did you get there?

I'm living and working in New York whilst studying for a post graduate certificate in International Business through the Mountbatten Institute.

How has the University of Reading and the Careers Centre helped in your chosen career path?

I was a section editor for Spark in my third year which helped me realise I wanted a career in PR / Media.

What are your top tips for students graduating this year? What should they be doing to secure the job they want?

Internships, internships, internships!

What does the University mean to you and what is your favourite memory?

My time at Reading was the best time of my life. I have so many favourite memories, Newquay, RUSNO, nights out at the union or Qbar, getting lost in the HUMMS building. Every moment!
