Iro Kapsali (BA Management and Business Administration 2009)

Iro is currently our International Alumni Ambassador for Cyprus

I am working for one of the largest trading companies in Cyprus as Human Resource Manager. I joined the company in 2011, after working for one year with a small consultancy company as a Human Resource Officer. I obtained my BA in Management and Business Administration from the University of Reading and my MSc in Human Resource Management and Organisational Analysis from King’s College London.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Reading?

I chose to study at the University of Reading because it has a very good reputation for its academic level.  The University has all the essential facilities for students and there is a variety of societies to choose from. I had heard very good comments from friends and relatives, both on the high standard of the university but also about Reading in general. Now, all I can say is that the words that everybody said were all true!

What was the best bit about living and studying in Reading?

Reading is an amazing place to live in! The scenery is truly incredible. The campus is very beautiful and very close to Reading town centre. The residents are very welcoming and friendly and the campus is filled with people with different backgrounds, nationalities and cultures. Also, Reading is very close to London and other cities for those who want to have a weekend break.

What top tips would you give to students who are beginning their studies?

Time flies so make sure you enjoy every moment of your University life. Be organised, punctual and consistent with your studies, join the societies that interest you and make friendships that could most certainly last for a life time.

What are you up to now? How did you get there?

As I mentioned above, I am currently working as a Human Resource Manager for one of the biggest trading companies in Cyprus. I joined the company in 2011 at the position of Human Resource Assistant and in April 2013 I was promoted to the position of the Human Resource Manager. The company operates in 5 cities, having a total of 280 employees.

How has the University helped you in your career ?

Covering a wide range of topics, my degree has enabled me to gain strong knowledge on areas that are important in my career. Giving presentations has also helped me to improve my public speaking and communication skills.

What University activities are you still involved with and why do you volunteer?

I am an International Alumni Ambassador for the University. This gives me the opportunity to share my passion for the University and share my experiences with prospective students.

What does the University mean to you and what is your favourite memory?

University of Reading has undoubtedly changed my life. I am very proud to be a UoR graduate and I am very grateful for having the opportunity to meet inspiring people. The beautiful surroundings, the group projects, the days in the library, the breaks in the cafeteria, the evenings at the Union, exam results day, graduation day…these are a few of my favourite memories!
