Michael Nettleton (BA Economics 2002)

I am an "Old Salopian" who graduated from Reading after 3 brilliant years in 2002. I have moved back to Shropshire where I now work as a sales director for Nock Deighton, one of the counties oldest estate agencies.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Reading?

The reasons for my choice were various: good academic reputation, a central campus and a keen sporting community were probably the top 3.

What was the best bit about living and studying in Reading?

The social side of my student life: be that in halls, course mates, house mates or the hockey & cricket clubs. I just had a really positive experience.

What top tips would you give to students who are beginning their studies?

Make sure you go to all of your lectures and choose a topic that you love.

What are you up to now? How did you get there?

I spent the last 10 or so years selling houses in Shropshire for the family business.

What would be your top tips for students interested in working in this sector?

Start at the bottom and work up. If you love it, the rewards will look after themselves.

What are your top tips for students graduating this year? What should they be doing to secure the job they want?

Make sure you do some homework on the company prior to the interview. It is amazing how many people just 'rock up'! ;D

Why did you decide to give to the University of Reading?

I had such a great time there, it is the least I can do.

What does the University mean to you and what is your favourite memory?

All of it. The cricket club was probably the most fun I have ever had on a sport-field. RG1's was legendary also. To be fair to the lecturers, a number of them were genuinely inspiring.
