Paul Hodgkinson (BA French 1984)


Director of my own executive coaching business since 2004. Previously a leadership development specialist in the financial services sector. Also a district and county councillor in the Cotswolds since 2007.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Reading?

Good reputation, friendly campus.

What was the best bit about living and studying in Reading?

Meeting my close friends! Have never lost touch with them.

What top tips would you give to students who are beginning their studies?

Don't hesitate to do what you want to do and enjoy every minute of it.

What are you up to now? How did you get there?

One to one coaching for senior people in organisations. Realised I had the skills, sought out opportunities to do it and got work through word of mouth.

What would be your top tips for students interested in working in this sector?

Get a good grounding in HR first and experience of different sectors.

How has the University of Reading and the Careers Centre helped in your chosen career path?

I evolved into this role after 15 years working experience.

What are your top tips for students graduating this year? What should they be doing to secure the job they want?

Think about what you're really good at, why you're good at it and look for jobs which use those things.

What does the University mean to you and what is your favourite memory?

Great memory of the best years of my life - surrounded by friends, great campus and fantastic year in France where I learned so much about the rest of Europe.
