Donor Recognition

Furthering Impact | Developing Research | Providing Opportunity

Recognition societies are a way for charities to distinguish the contribution of their donors and thank them for their continued support. The University of Reading donors are grouped into several different societies depending on their giving method or value.

The Blandford Club

Silver donor pin

All donors that give on a regular basis through Direct Debit or Standing Order become part of the Blandford Club, which recognises their ongoing commitment to the university and its future generations. By making a regular donation, it also allows us to plan for our future with a greater degree of certainty. All donations will make a tremendous difference to the students here at Reading. Regular gifts can be monthly, quarterly or annual, and setting up a Direct Debit is quick, easy and secure. You can do this online, by telephone or by mail.

The Reading Pioneers

Leading philanthropy at the University

Reading Pioneer Donor PinThe Reading Pioneers are donors to the University of Reading with a commitment to ensuring the University continues to excel in all areas and build upon its success as one of the leading research intensive universities in the UK and one of the top 200 universities in the world.

All Pioneers make gifts to the University equivalent to £1,000 or more each year. Donors include some of Reading's most high profile and successful alumni from many fields: Finance, Real Estate, Construction, Law, Intellectual Property, Sport and Retail among many others.

All alumni and friends of the University are able to become Pioneers and, as a result, increase their engagement and input into the future life of the University. We offer opportunities to build relationships with other Pioneers and senior staff which is beneficial both to themselves and to the University.

The Palmer Society

In 2009, the University launched the Palmer Society to recognise the special commitment of those who choose to support us with a gift in their will. It is named after the Palmer family, whose bequests and gifts were so fundamental in the early days of the University. Find out more about leaving a legacy to the University.

The College of Benefactors

In 2014 the University of Reading launched its College of Benefactors with the induction of 8 members. This group recognises those donors who have made the most significant contribution to the University through their support. Induction into the College is the highest honour that the University can bestow upon its donors and its members have all made outstanding gifts to the institution.

We thank all of these donors for their exceptional support for the University of Reading and welcome them to the College of Benefactors.

Donor Pins

The University of Reading supports the use of donor pins, a national initiative aimed at raising awareness of philanthropic support for higher education. Bristol, Birmingham, Bath and Warwick are just a few of the other universities that take part.

Reading gives donor pins to the Reading Pioneers and Blandford Club members. Donors are invited to wear their pins with pride to demonstrate the value of supporting the University and encourage their peers to join them in helping Reading to build on its successes as one of the top 200 universities in the world. This will also raise the visibility of the influential community who philanthropically support the work of universities in the UK.
